Fray Earns Win in Second Game Against Nevada

RENO, Nev. - Jordyn Fray earns her first win for the San José State softball team (11-20, 3-5 MW) over Nevada (23-12, 5-3 MW), 5-2, on Saturday afternoon in the second game of the series.

Fray started in the circle and did not allow a Wolfpack run until the fourth inning. She pitched 4.1 innings with two strikeouts before getting relieved. Ava Conti was next in line to take the circle and pitched .1 innings.

Norah Coulsell took the circle next and closed out the final 2.1 innings for the Spartans. Coulsell struck out a total of two, the second coming from the game-winning strikeout in the seventh.

The Spartan power was on display as a pair of home runs secured the game in the run column. Ahmiya Noriega struck the first ball over the center-field fence in the bottom of the third, which also cashed in Carly Cummings from second.

Chillingworth in the top of the fourth was down in the count, 0-2, until she roped a ball to center field, putting the Spartans up 5-0. She also brought in Sophia Burdick from second and Gabriella Sotelo from first.

The two home runs secured the game for the Spartans, as the Wolfpack only responded with one run in the fourth and seventh innings.

  • Noriega's homerun is the second of the season, now tying her season high
  • Six different Spartans collected a hit tonight: Shay McDowell, Haley Reeve, Cummings, Noriega, Burdick and Chillingworth
  • Reina Zermeno is now on a five-game on-base streak and Burdick is on a four game
  • Sandoval has now reached base on her seventh HBP
