by Sky Kerstein

STANFORD, Calif. - Behind a career-best performance from Avinash Iyer, the San José State men’s golf team concluded play at The Goodwin on Saturday. Competing against a stacked field of 30 programs at the historic Stanford Golf Course, the Spartans finished in 20th place with a three-day total of 858 (+18).

Iyer Leads the Charge

Iyer was the story of the weekend for the Spartans. Iyer finished the tournament in a tie for third place, posting a career-best total of 203 (-7). His climb up the leaderboard was fueled by a spectacular final round on Saturday, where he carded a 64 (-6)—his second-lowest round of the season.

Mungali Cracks Top Ten

Joining Iyer at the top of the leaderboard was Keshav "KC" Mungali. Mungali remained remarkably consistent throughout the event, closing out his tournament with an even-par 70 on Saturday. His three-day total of 205 (-5) earned him a tie for eighth place, giving the Spartans two finishers inside the top ten.

Rounding out the field for the team, Christian Maggard finished at 227 (+17), followed by Ivan Barahona at 229 (+19) and Jed Dy at 231 (+21).

UP NEXT: The Spartans host the 79th Western Intercollegiate Presented by Titleist from April 13-15th at Pasatiempo Golf Club in Santa Cruz, Calif., and it will be seen on the Golf Channel.
