HONOLULU—Sabrina Moore and Sophia Torres won in the fifth spot against Saint Mary’s Friday as the San José State beach volleyball team started play at the Heineken Queen’s Cup with losses to Saint Mary’s (4-1) and Pepperdine (5-0).
- Moore and Torres won in straight sets, 21-16, 21-9.
- Rio Thomas and Randi Reeves won the first set against the Gaels, 21-15, before falling 21-14 and 15-9.
- Moore and Torres went three sets in their match against Pepperdine, winning 21-16, before losing two very close sets, 22-20 and 16-14.
- UP NEXT – The Spartans continue at the Heineken Queen’s Cup on Friday with duals against No. 12 Hawaii at 2:15 p.m. PT and Chaminade at 4:45 p.m. PT.
