Fanshier and Baker Go 2-0 on Friday To Lead Spartans

HONOLULU—Kaia Fanshier and Grace Baker went 2-0 on Friday as the San José State beach volleyball team defeated Chaminade, 5-0, after falling 4-1 to No. 12 Hawaii earlier in the day at the Heineken Queen’s Cup in Hawaii.

  • Fanshier and Baker needed three sets in the win over the Rainbow Wahine, 25-23, 14-21, 16-14.
  • They then won in straight sets over the Silverswords pair, 21-13, 21-16.
  • Mia Scheepens and Isabella Martinez stretched their match against Hawaii to three sets, falling 21-14 in the first set, before winning 21-18 to force a third set. The third set was pushed to extra points before UH won 20-18.
  • Sabrina Moore and Anna Salmon won their first set against the Rainbow Wahine, 21-16, before falling 22-20 and 15-10.
  • Four of the five Spartan pairs won in straight sets over Chaminade.
  • Rio Thomas and Randi Reeves needed three sets after falling 23-21 in the first set. They then won the next two sets 21-9 and 15-12 for the victory.

UP NEXT—The Spartans finish play at the Heineken Queen’s Cup on Saturday with contests against Concordia Irvine at 10:30 a.m. PT and UNCW at 6 p.m. PT.
