SAN JOSE, Calif.—Darcy Spark and Bridget Cranley each found the back of the net four times, but the No. 17 San José State women’s water polo team did not score in the final two minutes of overtime in a 15-14 loss to No. 24 Pacific Sunday afternoon at the SRAC.
- Spark and Cranley scored all four goals in the first quarter to give SJSU a 4-3 lead. Spark scored the first two SJSU goals, followed by Cranley’s two goals.
- Emma Ruzic scored with eight seconds remaining in the second quarter as the Spartans took a 7-6 lead into halftime.
- San José State had a 10-9 lead after three quarters after Nynke Willemsen scored with 36 seconds left for the lead.
- Spark gave SJSU the 12-11 lead with 2:27 left in regulation, but the Tigers scored with 1:19 left to force overtime.
- Jennine Osorio scored her only goal in the first overtime to tie the match at 13-13, before the Tigers took a 14-13 lead with one second remaining.
- Spark scored with 2:32 left in the second overtime to tie the match at 14-14, but Pacific scored with two minutes remaining to take the lead for good at 15-14.
UP NEXT – The Spartans travel to Southern California next weekend for three contests. SJSU plays at No. 2 UCLA next Saturday at 1 p.m. The team then plays two matches at the Aztec Invitational on Sunday, the 15th, against Harvard at 9 a.m., and UC San Diego at 1:40 p.m.
