Zermeno Brings the Rain Against San Diego State

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Reina Zermeno homered twice in a doubleheader to lead the San José State softball team (11-27, 3-12 MW) in a 6-1 loss and a 4-0 game for the Spartans that was delayed due to weather against San Diego State (21-19, 6-9 MW).

The second game was called in the bottom of the fifth inning and will be resumed tomorrow morning at 11:00 a.m.

GAME ONE

The Spartans and Aztecs were in a pitching duel up until the top of the fourth inning when the Aztecs hit a solo home run.

The Spartans held the Aztecs to no runs in the fifth and sixth innings. Zermeno would score the lone Spartan run off of a home run to dead center to bring the game within one run.

The Aztecs would hit another home run in the top of the seventh to make it 2-1. The game was then delayed an hour due to weather.

Following the delay, still in the top of the seventh inning, the Aztecs would add on four more runs to secure the game 6-1.

GAME TWO

The Spartans opened the game early in the bottom of the first inning off a Zermeno home run that also brought in Ahmiya Noriega to take an early lead of 2-0.

In the bottom of the second inning, the Spartans would add another run from a Burdick single to score Gigi Ortega from second.

Carly Cummings in a full count, singled to right that scored Burdick in the bottom of the fifth inning, elevating the Spartans to a 4-0 lead.
