SAN JOSE, Calif.– Camila Celis won in straight sets in singles to lead the San José State women's tennis team (7-13, 1-10 MW) in a 4-1 loss against Nevada (9-10, 5-5 MW) from the Spartan Tennis Complex on Monday afternoon for the Spartans' final home match.
The Spartans matched the Wolfpack's pace, starting in doubles, winning on court three after a loss on court two. However, Nevada took the win on court one to secure the doubles point.
As singles commenced, the Spartans started off strong, taking the lead in almost all first sets of their respective matches. Celis' win in singles put the Spartans on the board, but the Spartans' efforts fell short in all the other matches.
- Celis defeated her opponent on court five, 6-4, 6-3.
- Cristina Mateos Losada and Katarina Brajovic won on court three in doubles, 6-3.
- Emma Fantousis and doubles partner, Soledad Fayos Capilla, fell short 6-4.
- Tara Mihaljevic and Duru Durgun were bested, 6-1.
- Fantousis fell short, 6-2, 6-1, on court two.
- Durgun came up short, 6-4, 3-6, 1-6.
- Mihaljevic was bested by her opponent in a tight three-set match, 7-5, 1-6, 1-6.
