SANTA CRUZ, Calif. - Ivan Barahona carded a 69 (-1) in the first round to lead the San José State men’s golf team at The 79th Western Intercollegiate Presented by Titleist on Monday at Pasatiempo Golf Club.
The Spartans as a team shot a 364 (+14), which was good for 12th place after the first day.
Round One Individual Highlights
- Barahona paced the Spartans, which was highlighted by three birdies, placing him in a tie for 20th entering the second round.
- Fellow Spartan Avinash Iyer also navigated the course with efficiency, recording three birdies to finish with a 71 (+1).
- Competing as an individual, Xuan Luo mirrored Iyer's performance, also carding a 71 (+1) with three birdies. Both players currently sit tied for 36th place.
- Keshav "KC" Mungali: Shot a 72 (+2) and is currently tied for 44th place.
- Itai Cohen: Recorded a 74 (+4), placing him in a tie for 62nd.
- Christian Maggard: Finished his opening round with a 78 (+8).
- Jed Dy: Completed his first round with an 80 (+10).
UP NEXT: The Spartans head to the second round of the 79th Western Intercollegiate Presented by Titleist on Tuesday, and it will be seen on the Golf Channel starting at 4:00 p.m.
