Spartans Set for Mountain West Tournament Clash with Utah State

LAS VEGAS - Riding the momentum of a dominant regular-season finale, the San José State women's tennis team (8-13, 1-10 MW) travels to Las Vegas to open the 2026 Mountain West Tournament. Entering as the No. 11 seed, the Spartans will face the No. 6 seed Utah State (11-10, 5-6 MW) on Wednesday, April 22, at 9:00 a.m. from the Darling Tennis Center.

Regular Season Momentum:

The Spartans head into the postseason following a gritty 4-1 victory over Fresno State, securing their first conference win of the year. The match was highlighted by a resilient performance from Cristina Mateos Losada, who clinched the victory on court six. After dropping the first set, Mateos Losada battled back for a three-set comeback win to provide the deciding point.

Other key contributions against the Bulldogs included:

  • Camila Celis: Delivered a flawless second set in a straight-set victory.
  • Emma Fantousis: Dominant performance, shutting out her opponent in the second set to win in straight sets.

Tournament History vs. the Aggies:

In a reversal of roles from their last Mountain West Tournament meeting, the Spartans enter as the underdog. In their previous postseason meeting, SJSU held the No. 6 seed and swept the No. 11 Aggies 4-0, with Duru Durgun leading the charge.

The winner of Wednesday's opening-round match will advance to the quarterfinals on Thursday against No. 3 seed UNLV. Fans can follow live results via the Mountain West Championship Central page.
