Zermeno and McDowell Keep Hit Streaks Alive Against New Mexico

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Reina Zermeno and Shay McDowell keep their hitting streaks alive in the San José State softball team (14-30, 6-15 MW), 8-0 five inning loss to New Mexico (23-24, 10-11 MW) on Saturday afternoon from the Spartan Softball Field. 

The Lobos attacked early in the second inning, putting up eight runs in the top of the frame. 

The Spartans were unable to answer back to an eight-run deficit. 

McDowell extended her hit streak to six games in the bottom of the second in a 1-0 count with a single through the left side. 

Zermeno extended hers to seven in the bottom of the fourth with a full count single also through the left side of the infield. 

  • Jordyn Fray and Norah Coulsell each struck out one batter in the circle
  • Haley Reeve extended her on-base streak to five 
  • Zermeno and McDowell have both reached base in seven games straight

UP NEXT: The Spartans will look to close out the series against New Mexico on Sunday; the first pitch is scheduled for noon. Three Spartan seniors will be honored ahead of the game: Ahmiya Noriega, McDowell and Zermeno. The game can be watched on Mountain West Network.
