SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State baseball team (18-24, 5-10 MW) will host Grand Canyon (16-26, 6-9 MW) in a three game series this weekend at Excite Ballpark.
First pitches will be Friday at 6:05 p.m., Saturday at 2:05 p.m. and Sunday at 12:05 p.m. Every game can be watched on the Mountain West Network.
- The Spartans last played Grand Canyon in 2017 and are 5-2 all time against the Lopes
- The Spartans are coming off a 12-0 win over San Francisco in their final game of an 11-game road stint
- The Spartans have five shutouts so far this season, their most in a season since 2006
- Alex Fernandes holds a batting average of .399, the best in the MW and 16th best in the nation
- Additionally, Fernandes is second in the MW and is 12th in the nation with a .525 OBP. He also leads the conference in walks
- If the season ended today, Fernandes would have the fourth best batting average in a season in SJSU history
- Jake McCoy has 13 home runs so far this season, good for the second most in the MW and currently tied for seventh most all-time in a single season in program history
- McCoy has 22 career home runs, currently the eighth most in SJSU history
- David Thomas has started 11 games so far this season, the most in the conference. Thomas is the only pitcher in the conference with multiple complete games
- Dylan Smith's ERA of 4.66 is the best on the Spartans. Smith leads the MW with a 3.8 strikeout-walk ratio
