BOISE, Idaho - Reina Zermeno and Shay McDowell extend their hit streaks to lead the San José State softball team (15-31, 8-13 MW) in a 11-2 five-inning loss to Boise State (23-30, 9-14 MW) on Thursday afternoon from Huber Field at Dona Larsen Park.
The Broncos opened the game up with a seven-run first inning to take the early 7-0 lead. They then added two more runs in the second inning to take a 9-0 lead.
The Spartans responded in the top of the fourth inning when Zermeno first led off the inning with a double into right-center on the first pitch she saw. She then advanced to third on a ground ball.
On the first pitch she saw, Gigi Ortega then laid down a bunt down the first base line for a base hit and scored Zermeno.
In the top of the fifth, the Spartans added another run off a Sarah Deplitch sacrifice-fly to the right-field warning track, making the score 9-2.
Boise State then hit a two-run homerun in the bottom of the fifth for the run-rule, 11-2.
