TUCSON, Ariz. - Following a season highlighted by record-breaking individual performances and a team title, the San José State men’s golf team travels to Tucson, Ariz., for the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship. The three-day, 54-hole tournament will be held at the prestigious Omni Tucson National Resort (7,194 yards, Par-72) from Sunday, May 3, through Tuesday, May 5.
At the 79th Western Intercollegiate, Ivan Barahona delivered a spectacular final-round 5-under-par 65—his lowest score of the season—to finish tied for 7th place individually (-5). The performance helped the Spartans finish ahead of a pair of ranked programs as they prepared for the conference championship.
SEASON HIGHLIGHTS & STATISTICAL LEADERS: San José State has been led this season by a trio of consistent performers, all of whom have notched top-five finishes:
Avinash Iyer: Leads the team with a 69.93 scoring average over 30 rounds. Iyer has recorded 19 rounds of par or better and recently claimed a T-3rd finish at The Goodwin. He also made headlines by winning the Collegiate Showcase to earn a PGA TOUR exemption.
Keshav "KC" Mungali: Holds a 70.47 scoring average and matched Iyer with 19 rounds of par or better. Mungali’s season is highlighted by a second-place finish at the Jim DeLapa Collegiate, where the Spartans took home the team trophy.
Barahona: Carrying the hot hand into Tucson, Barahona leads the team in par-or-better rounds with 20. He maintains a 70.53 average and owns a season-best 4th-place finish at the Jim DeLapa Collegiate.
THE LINEUP: Joining Iyer, Mungali, and Barahona in the desert will be Christian Maggard (73.50 avg), who posted a top-20 finish at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite earlier this season, and Jed Dy (73.77 avg), who has appeared in all 30 rounds for the Spartans this year. Itai Cohen will be going as a substitute.
