BOISE, Idaho - Reina Zermeno, on the second pitch, hit a pull-side home run to left field for her 10th on the season to lead the San José State softball team (15-32, 7-17 MW) in a 7-5 loss to Boise State (24-30, 10-14 MW) on Friday afternoon from Huber Field at Dona Larsen Field.
Jordyn Fray, who earned the nod in the second game of the series, held the Broncos scoreless through the first two innings of the matchup.
The Broncos then opened the scoring in the third inning by putting up five runs to take a 5-0 lead.
The Spartans responded with Zermeno on two outs, hitting her homerun to left field to claw one run back. The Broncos responded in the next inning, the bottom of the fifth, by adding another run to make it 6-1.
Leading off the top of the sixth, Carly Cummings drew a walk to get on base. Zermeno followed this up by ripping a double into left-center.
Leata Sherlin then hit a sacrifice fly to right field on the first pitch she saw to score Cummings from third. Shay McDowell then hit a groundball to second to score Zermeno from third to bring the Spartans within three runs.
The Broncos responded with a leadoff homerun in the bottom of the sixth to make it 7-3.
With the Spartans down to their last two outs, Ahmiya Noriega hit a single to reach base. Cummings immediately followed it up with a single of her own to have runners on first and second.
Zermeno, in a 1-1 count, ripped her second double of the game to score both Noriega and Cummings to make the final score 7-5.

- Zermeno extends her hit streak to 10
