SAN JOSÉ, Calif.  - San José State has been selected as the official Team Base Camp for the Paraguay National Team during the group stage of the FIFA World Cup 2026. This historic partnership brings one of South America’s most storied football programs to the heart of Silicon Valley for the largest FIFA World Cup ever.

The FIFA World Cup 2026 will be a tournament of firsts, featuring 48 nations and hosted across 16 cities in Canada, Mexico, and the United States. As a Team Base Camp, SJSU will serve as the “home away from home” for La Albirroja, providing elite training facilities at the Spartan Soccer Complex alongside the stadium and high-performance athletic center.

“We are honored to welcome the Paraguay National Team to San José State University as their official Team Base Camp for the FIFA World Cup 2026,” said SJSU President Cynthia Teniente-Matson. “This historic partnership reflects the strength of our facilities, our commitment to excellence, and the vibrant, global spirit of Silicon Valley. Hosting La Albirroja on our campus is not only a proud moment for Spartan Athletics, but also an extraordinary opportunity to unite our students, alumni, and community around the world’s game.”

SJSU secured this first-of-its-kind partnership in collaboration with the Bay Area Host Committee, SJ26, and the City of San José.

The selection of SJSU aligns with the tournament’s innovative schedule, which prioritizes player recovery and regionalized travel. Strategically located near San Francisco Bay Area Stadium in Santa Clara—one of the tournament’s 16 Host Cities—SJSU offers Paraguay a seamless logistical experience throughout their World Cup experience.

“We are honored to welcome Team Paraguay to San José State,” said Jeff Konya, SJSU Director of Athletics. “Our world-class facilities are designed to support elite athletes at the highest level, and we are thrilled to play a pivotal role in the FIFA World Cup 2026 experience. This is a monumental opportunity to showcase our campus and the vibrant, diverse community of San José to a global audience.”

Under the leadership of Head Coach Gustavo Alfaro, the Paraguayan squad will utilize the university's state-of-the-art pitches and sports medicine facilities to prepare for their Group D matches, including their highly anticipated fixture against the United States at Los Angeles Stadium on June 12.
