SAN JOSE, Calif. — San José State Athletics announced today a groundbreaking $4 million philanthropic commitment to the men’s basketball program, representing the most significant philanthropic investment in program history. The transformational commitment will directly support player retention, talent acquisition, and critical operational needs, while helping position Spartan men’s basketball for sustained success in the Mountain West Conference.
“This commitment represents a powerful statement of belief in Coach Miles, our men’s basketball program and its future,” said Jeff Konya, Director of Athletics at San José State. “It reflects a deep commitment from both our athletics department and the university to elevate basketball on a national scale. We are incredibly grateful to our donors, Coach Miles, and to all those who continue to support our vision.”
Head men's basketball coach Tim Miles echoed the sentiment, emphasizing the broader impact of the commitment and the opportunity it creates moving forward.
“I’m extremely grateful to our donors and to our university leadership for believing in what we’re building,” said Miles. “This support is a huge step forward for our program, and it’s just the beginning. Our fans and supporters will see an immediate change in our program in all facets. This truly excites me and signals that SJSU Hoops is ready to compete for championships. As we keep moving upward to compete nationally, continued support is essential. The momentum is real, and we’re excited about what’s next.”
The donation signals a defining moment for San José State men’s basketball, one that strengthens the foundation for long-term competitiveness, enhances the student-athlete experience, and reinforces the program’s commitment to excellence on and off the court.
In conjunction with this investment, the university and the athletics department are actively engaged in a feasibility study to upgrade the Provident Credit Union Event Center, a key step in modernizing the gameday and training environment and strengthening San José State’s competitive standing within the conference. Additional upgrades to the facility will include an upgraded sound system and a new basketball court.
