COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Alex Fernandes and Dylan Smith have both been named First Team All-Mountain West, announced by the conference on Thursday morning.
Fernandes just finished up one of the best offensive seasons in San Jose State history. Fernandes posted a batting average of .401 on the season, becoming the fourth Spartan ever to hit .400 in a season and the first since 1993. Fernandes’ batting average was the tenth best in the nation this season and his on base percentage of .528 was sixth best in the nation.
Fernandes led the Mountain West in multiple statistical categories, including batting average (.401), on base percentage (.528), hits per game (1.51) and walks (42). He also finished top five in the conference in hits, runs, total bases and triples.
Fernandes completed his second season with the Spartans in 2026, being named all-conference for the first time ever. Fernandes was named Preseason All-Mountain West before this season and was named to the Mountain West All-Tournament Team in 2025.
Smith completed his first season with the Spartans in 2026, holding an ERA of 4.08, the best on the team. Smith started in all 12 of his appearances this season, finishing with a 3-4 record, holding opponents to a .267 batting average and striking out 50 batters. In conference play, Smith finished 2026 with an ERA of 3.24 and a 3-1 record. Additionally, Smith had a complete game in a win over Grand Canyon on May 3. Smith is the first Spartan pitcher to be named First Team All-Mountain West since Jack White in 2023.

Alex Fernandes, Senior, Outfielder, San Marcos, Calif., Memphis

- Appeared and started in all 51 games
- Finished 2026 with a .401 batting average, .528 OBP and .661 slugging percentage
- Tallied 77 hits, 39 RBIs, 58 runs, 17 doubles, six triples, seven home runs and 42 walks on the season
- Became the fourth Spartan ever to hit .400 in a season and the first since 1993
- His 12 triples in his career at SJSU is tied for the fourth most in school history
- His 42 walks this season is tied for the seventh most in a season in SJSU history
- 2026 Preseason All-Mountain West
- Joined the Spartans in 2025 and was named to the Mountain West All-Tournament team last season
- Started career at UCLA before heading to Edmonds College and then Memphis

Dylan Smith, Senior, RHP, Bakersfield, Calif., Northern Colorado
- First Team All-Mountain West
- Finished 2026 with an ERA of 4.08 and a 3-4 record
- Started in all 12 appearances, pitching a total of 68.1 innings while striking out 50 and holding opponents to a .267 batting average
- Held a 3-1 record and a 3.24 ERA in conference play
- Had one complete game this season against Grand Canyon on May 3, allowing just one run and seven hits in nine innings
- Spent his first three collegiate seasons at Northern Colorado
