Trio Leads SJSU to Third Place After Day One of MW Championship

TUCSON, Ariz. - Ivan Barahona, Christian Maggard, and Keshav "KC" Mungali all shot a 69 (-3) to lead the San José State men’s golf team in the first round of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship from the Omni Tucson National Resort on Sunday. The three teammates are tied for 11th place individually heading into Monday. 

The Spartans carded a collective 11-under-par (277) as a team to finish Sunday in third place in a competitive 12-team field.

  • Barahona: Used a steady hand to rack up six birdies on the day.
  • Maggard: Matched the fireworks with an eagle of his own, complemented by five birdies.
  • Mungali: Highlighted his round with a spectacular eagle and four birdies.
  • Avinash Iyer: Carded a 70 (-2) to sit in a tie for 17th. Iyer was aggressive early, matching Barahona with six birdies on the round.
  • Jed Dy: Turned in a solid 71 (-1) with three birdies, ending the day tied for 21st.

UP NEXT: The Spartans head to the second round of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship from the Omni Tucson National Resort on Monday.
