TUCSON, Ariz. - Behind a stellar, bogey-free performance from Avinash Iyer, the San José State men’s golf team sits in sixth place following the first two rounds of the 2026 Credit Union 1 Mountain West Championship. Competing at the Omni Tucson National Resort, the Spartans combined for a team score of 18-under-par (558) and remain firmly in the mix in a crowded 12-team field.
Iyer provided the spark for the Spartans on Monday, carding a 4-under 68. His round was defined by precision and composure, as he tallied four birdies without a single dropped shot. Iyer’s consistency has him currently tied for eighth place individually with a two-day total of 138 (-6).
The Spartans showed depth across the lineup, with four players recording birdies on holes No. 2 and No. 8 during the second round.
- Ivan Barahona maintained his steady play, carding a 2-under 70. His four-birdie performance on Monday keeps him just outside the top 10 in a tie for 13th at 5-under for the tournament (139).
- Jed Dy matched Barahona’s 70, utilizing three birdies to climb into a tie for 24th at 3-under-par (141).
- Keshav "KC" Mungali provided the highlight of the day with an eagle on his way to a 73, and in a tie for 27th place with a 142 (-2).
- Christian Maggard rounded out the Spartan effort with a 75, including four birdies, to sit at even-par (144) for the championship and in a tie for 35th place.
