Barahona, Iyer and Mungali Selected for 2026 NCAA Men’s Golf Regionals

BEACH-TournamentGameday 2.jpegINDIANAPOLIS - San José State men’s golfers Ivan Barahona, Avinash Iyer, and Keshav "KC" Mungali have been selected to compete as individuals in the 2026 NCAA Division I Men’s Golf Regional at Trysting Tree Golf Club in Corvallis, Ore., as announced by the NCAA selection committee on Wednesday. The Regional will take place May 18-20.

This selection marks a significant milestone for the Spartans’ program. This is the first time the Spartans have ever had three individuals make an NCAA Regional in the same season. Also, Barahona, Iyer, and Mungali are the first SJSU individuals to qualify for the postseason since Caleb Shetler represented the university at the 2023 NCAA Morgan Hill Regional.

Iyer, a standout throughout the 2025-26 campaign, enters the regional on the heels of a great performance at the Mountain West Championship, where he finished tied for sixth place at 10-under par.

  • PGA TOUR Exemption: In early April, Iyer carded a blistering 8-under 64 to win the 12th annual Collegiate Showcase. This victory earned him a prestigious exemption into the 2026 Corales Puntacana Championship on the PGA TOUR.
  • Career Low: Earlier in the season, Iyer set a personal best by firing a 63 (-9) at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invitational in September.

Barahona and Mungali earned postseason berths following a year of steady, high-level play that helped anchor the Spartan lineup.

  • Barahona: Shot a 65 at The Western Intercollegiate to propel himself to a tie for seventh place and also had two rounds of 67 at the Jim Delapa Collegiate to secure a fourth-place finish.
  • Mungali: At the Jim Delapa Collegiate, he secured a second-place individual finish with a 64-68-65 (-13).

Both of their performances were instrumental in leading San José State to a first-place team finish at the Jim Delapa Collegiate.
