INDIANAPOLIS - San José State Director of Athletics Jeff Konya has been elected to serve as the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee chairperson for the 2027-28 season and the vice chair for the 2026-27 season, announced by the NCAA on Friday.
This comes after his appointment to the prestigious NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Committee was extended for an additional two years earlier this year. Konya’s renewed commitment means he will now represent the Mountain West Conference on the national committee through August 31, 2028.
“Serving on the Division I Women’s Basketball Committee has been one of the highlights of my professional career, and I’m grateful that my peers have entrusted me with this opportunity,” Konya said. “This is an incredible time for women’s basketball, and I look forward to helping guide the championship during a period of tremendous growth for the sport.”
Konya, who previously served on the committee during the 2017–18 season while leading the athletic department at Oakland University, stepped back onto the panel in 2024.
The 12-member committee is tasked with the selection, seeding, and bracketing of the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship field, as well as the ongoing administration, governance, and promotion of the tournament. Konya brings a wealth of national committee experience to the role; he has previously served on NCAA committees for Division I men’s soccer, Division II women’s tennis, and the Division I Women's gymnastics committee.
A prominent voice in the industry, Konya is a two-time National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA) Director of the Year award winner (2016–17 at Oakland and 2020–21 at Northeastern). His deep administrative background also spans highly respected tenures at California State University, Bakersfield, Southern Methodist University (SMU), Iowa, South Dakota, Bucknell, UT San Antonio, and Memphis. Additionally, the readers of the Mercury News voted SJSU the "Best College Sports Team in Silicon Valley" for an unprecedented three years in a row.
On the committee, Konya continues to serve alongside a distinguished roster of national collegiate leaders, including the committee chair for the 2026-27 season Liz Darger (BYU), Kristen Brown (Nebraska), Vicky Chun (Yale), Sara Elcano (Oregon State), Annie Fiorvanti (UConn), Josh Heird (Louisville), Candice Storey Lee (Vanderbilt), Marvin Lewis (George Mason), Sherika Montgomery (Big South Conference), Jill Redmond (MVC), and Ashleigh Simmons (Western Carolina).
