SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The San José State women's soccer team (0-2-0) was led by freshman Sophia Daily, who took five shots in a 1-0 loss to UC Santa Barbara (2-0-0).
In her 52 minutes of play, Daily took all five of her shots in the second half, including one on target.
The first half of the match saw just one shot from the Spartans and two from the Gauchos, with neither side able to find the back of the net.
Fry recorded her first save in the 32nd minute, stopping an attacker who attempted to chip the ball into the net.
SJSU then outshot UCSB 10-5 in the second half.
The second half began with Indigo Sims taking a shot that forced the keeper to make a diving save to her left just 20 seconds in.
Fry recorded her second save in the 51st minute, reaching up to punch the ball away and prevent it from reaching the back of the net.
UCSB scored the match's lone goal in the 87th minute.
The Spartans then recorded their final shot in the final second of the match, which was ultimately blocked.
- Daily is the first freshman to record five shots in a single match since Tatiana Cunningham did so against Nevada on Sept. 29, 2022.
- Aria Burrola and Alexi Ames made the first starts of their careers and played all 90 minutes.
- Nicole Moita De Deus made her first career start.
