
SAN JOSE, Calif. - The San José State men’s water polo team was picked as league favorites in the WCC preseason coaches’ poll and Samu Biros and Sam Keightley were both named WCC Preseason All-Conference, the conference announced on Friday morning. The Spartans were the only team in the conference to have multiple players on the preseason all-conference team.

The Spartans are the reigning WCC Champions, winning the conference for the second time in the last three seasons. Last season, the Spartans finished with a record of 14-8, earning a berth to the NCAA Tournament and finishing as the No. 6 team in the nation, the highest ranking to end a season in school history.
The Spartans will begin this season as the No. 9 ranked team in the country. They will open the 2026 season in Davis, Calif. With matches against Cal, Harvard and American River College on September 5.

- As a sophomore last season, was named a Second Team All-American and to the Second Team All-WCC and WCC All-Tournament Team

- Leading scorer for the Spartans with 57 goals and 73 points last season
- Also led the Spartans in steals with 30 and field blocks with 19
- Tallied 93 goals and 39 assists across two seasons with SJSU
Sam Keightley, Utility, Sophomore, Sydney, Australia, Hamilton Boys HS
- Enters his second season with the Spartans
- As a freshman last season, was named an All-American Honorable Mention, to the WCC All-Second Team and WCC All-Freshman Team
- WCC Champion in 2025
- Was the second leading scorer for the Spartans coming in with 56 goals last season and led the team in drawn exclusions with 54
