PRINCETON, N.J. — Across two games, Sam Keightley recorded six goals and five steals, while Mitchell Keightley dished out one goal, nine assists and six steals to lead the No. 11 San José State men's water polo team (4-2, 0-0 WCC) to a 13-9 win over No. 18 Harvard (2-6, 0-0 NWPC) and a 15-11 loss to No. 12 Princeton (6-0, 0-0 CWPI) on Saturday.
vs. No. 18 Harvard
The Spartans struck first, but the Crimson answered blow for blow to keep the first quarter tight. Goals from four different Spartans pushed San José State ahead 7-4 at the half. Harvard chipped away in the third quarter to close the gap, but S. Keightley delivered a pair of fourth-quarter goals to seal the 13-9 win.
- S. Keightley led the Spartans with four goals, Samu Biros recorded a hat trick, and Aron Sárfalvi and Giancarlo Marquez each scored twice. Aidan Johnson and Péter Kolos Kohári added one apiece.
- M. Keightley tallied four assists, Marquez added two, and Kolos Kohári, Mateja Cetkovic, S. Keightley, Biros, Johnson and Sárfalvi each dished out one.
- S. Keightley anchored the defense with five steals, while Sárfalvi and M. Keightley each added three.
- All three goalies saw action: Alexey Poletaev made three saves, while Grant Anderson and Stellen Karkazis each recorded one.
vs. No. 12 Princeton
San José State stayed within a goal through the first two quarters, with scores from Marquez, Mitchell Keightley, Bence Kristok, Louis Fehrensen and Austin Hexter keeping it 7-6 at the half. The third quarter remained tight, but Princeton pulled away in the fourth to close out the 15-11 win.
- Hexter, Marquez and S. Keightley each scored twice, while M. Keightley, Cetkovic, Kristok, Fehrensen and Johnson added one apiece.
- M. Keightley ran the offense with five assists, matching his career high set in a 14-9 win over Pomona-Pitzer (10/25/25).
- M. Keightley also contributed on defense with a block and three steals, while Sárfalvi led the team with five steals.
- Anderson made four saves, and Karkazis added two.
