BRONX, N.Y.- Sam Keightley scores four goals to lead the No. 11 San José State men's water polo team (4-2, 0-0 WCC) in a 14-10 loss against No. 5 Fordham (6-0, 0-0 MAWPC) on Sunday morning at the Col. Francis B. Messmore Aquatic Center.
The Rams jumped ahead early despite scoring efforts from Aidan Johnson and Louis Fehrensen, taking a 9-4 lead into halftime. The Spartans fought back in the third quarter, narrowing the deficit to 10-8, but Fordham pulled away in the fourth, outscoring the Spartans 4-2 down the stretch to bring the final score to 14-10.
- Keightley led the Spartans in scoring efforts, finding the back of the net four times.
- Aidan Johnson recorded a hat trick, scoring twice in the first quarter and once in the third. Giancarlo Marquez, Mateja Cetkovic and Fehrensen each added a goal.
- Alexey Poletaev made five saves in net.
UP NEXT: The Spartans will participate in the MPSF Tournament from Friday, Sept. 18 to Sunday, Sept. 20 in Palo Alto, Calif.
