Graves Leads Spartan Hitters Against Hornets

SAN JOSE, Calif.—The Spartans hit .317 Friday, led by Morgan Graves at .429, the San José State volleyball team fell to Sacramento State 3-1 (23-25, 26-24, 25-19, 25-22) at the Battle of NorCal inside Spartan Gym.

  • Graves led all hitters with 15 kills on 28 attempts and only three hitting errors.
  • Lolo Fonua hit .429 for the four sets, contributing 10 kills on 21 attempts and only one error, while Learden Lee hit .462 with eight kills on 13 attempts and only two errors.
  • In all, 10 Spartans had at least one kill in the match.
  • Orian Drore led the Spartan defense with 11 digs.
  • Hanna Darvas recorded 23 assists and seven digs, while Fatimah Hall had 17 assists and six digs.
  • SJSU recorded seven aces in the match, three by Kylee Sells.
  • The Spartans won the first set, 25-23, taking the lead for good at 20-19 on a Fonua kill and winning on a Graves kill.
  • The two teams battled in the second set, with the Spartans fighting back to tie the match at 24-24 on a Lee kill before the Hornets scored the final two points to win 26-24.

UP NEXT – The Spartans finish hosting the Battle of NorCal this Sunday with a match against California. First serve is set for 2 p.m., inside Spartan Gym.
