LAS VEGAS - Ronin Axelson has been named the Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week the conference announced on Monday. This marks Axelson’s first career player of the week award and the Spartans’ second player of the week award this season.
Axelson had 11 saves across two games on the week, including an eight save shutout performance in the Spartans' 1-0 win over CSUN. His eight saves were a career-high and it was his first clean sheet of the season. Axelson has 36 saves so far this season.
The Spartans will open Mountain West conference play against UC Davis on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 7 p.m. PT at the Spartan Soccer Complex. The game can be watched on MW+.
