SAN JOSE, Calif.— After a multi-game road swing, the No. 9 San José State men's water polo team (5-6, 0-0 WCC) returns home this weekend to host UC Merced (0-4, 0-0 WWPA) at noon at the Student Recreation and Aquatic Center (SRAC).
Before returning to San Jose, the Spartans will travel to Palo Alto on Friday to take on No. 2 Stanford (8-1, 0-0 MPSF) at 1 p.m. at the Avery Aquatics Center. The match will stream live on OVERNGHT.
Last weekend, the Spartans competed at the MPSF Invite from Sept. 18–20 at the Avery Aquatics Center in Palo Alto against a field of top-ranked opponents.
- The Spartans kicked off the invite with a thrilling fourth-quarter comeback victory over No. 8 Princeton, 14-12, sparked by late goals from Louis Fehrensen, Mitchell Keightley and Sam Keightley.
- On the second day of the tournament, the Spartans were bested by No. 2 USC, 16-7, and then fell short against No. 6 Long Beach State, 17-11.
- To close out the invite on Sunday, the Spartans battled No. 13 UC Irvine into overtime before dropping a narrow decision, 15-14.
- S. Keightley led the Spartan attack throughout the weekend, racking up 10 total goals across the four tournament matches.
- With his 10-goal output, S. Keightley officially reached 80 career goals as a Spartan.
- Before the match against UC Merced, the Spartans will also take on West Valley College in an exhibition match.
