IRVING, Texas - San José State linebacker and special-teams standout John Norwood has been named a semifinalist for the prestigious 2026 William V. Campbell Trophy®, the National Football Foundation (NFF) & College Hall of Fame announced. The Campbell Trophy® recognizes an individual as the nation's premier football scholar-athlete for combined academic success, football performance, and exemplary leadership.
Norwood, an Aviation major, former walk-on, and a Milpitas, Calif., native, is one of the Mountain West Conference's most decorated scholar-athletes, with a cumulative GPA just under 4.0.

Nominated by San José State as the institution's sole candidate, Norwood is among a record 206 semifinalists across all divisions of college football. The NFF Awards Committee will announce 12 to 16 finalists on Oct. 21, with each finalist receiving an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship.
