USAFA, Colo.—Zuzana Kosíková and Devon DeNecochea each recorded seven kills to lead the San José State volleyball team as the Spartans opened Mountain West play with a 3-0 loss (25-16, 27-25, 25-15) at Air Force Thursday night at Cadet East Gym.
- DeNecochea hit .333 for the match with her seven kills on 15 attempts and only two errors. She also combined with Ava Hewitt-Smith for a block.
- Kosíková added five digs to go with her seven kills.
- Morgan Graves and Naima Foster each had six kills in the loss. Graves came up one dig short of her second double-double of the season with nine digs.
- Foster teamed up with Hewitt-Smith for her only block of the match.
- Orian Drore led the Spartan defense with 10 digs on her birthday.
- Fatimah Hall recorded 17 assists and three digs, while Hanna Darvas added 14 assists and six digs.
- The Spartans had an early lead in set one, but Air Force took a 6-5 lead on a Hall service error and rolled to the 25-1 win.
- San José State jumped out to a 17-11 lead in set two as Hewitt-Smith recorded one of her three kills for point 17. The team tied the set at 25-25 on a Graves kill before the Falcons scored the final two sets for the 27-25 win.
- Air Force jumped out early in the third set and never relinquished the lead in a 25-15 win.
