ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Paige Fry recorded eight saves in the match for the fourth time this season to lead the San José State women's soccer team (1-5-2, 0-1-0 MW) in the 3-0 loss to New Mexico (4-2-2, 1-0-0 MW) to open conference play on Thursday night.
The match started with strong aggression from the Lobos as they put up six shots on goal and Fry making a save on each one.
In the 28th minute, in a one-on-one situation, Fry punched a shot that was heading to the top right corner of the goal outside the box, ruining the momentum. The 34th minute saw a Lobo take a shot from outside the box that Fry got a hand on to push it into the crossbar and away from the goal.
Fry recorded her final save of the half in a full-body extension to prevent a New Mexico goal late in the 42nd minute.
The game was tied 0-0 heading into halftime.
New Mexico scored three times in the second half and the Spartans were unable to retaliate.
- The last time the Lobos defeated the Spartans was on Nov. 5, 2019, in the first game of the MW Tournament
- Alexi Ames and Mercedes Cioffi played the entire match. The two have each played the full 90 minutes in five matches in a row
- The Spartans recorded nine shots in the match; Maryam Ladkani recorded the most with four and one on goal. Indigo Sims recorded a shot; Aria Burrola, Sophia Daily and Myanne Fernandes each tested the Lobos keeper
