EL PASO, Texas - Paige Pineda-Aliamus and Charlotte Memoly each tested the keeper to lead the San José State women's soccer team (1-6-2, 0-2-0 MW) in the 1-0 loss to UTEP (7-1-3, 1-1-0 MW) on Sunday afternoon at University Field.
Memoly first tested the keeper in the 11th minute from a set piece that forced the Miners' keeper to make a diving save to her left. Pineda-Aliamus tested the keeper herself in the 21st minute, having received a through ball from Maryam Ladkani that led to a shot on the near post, forcing a Miner save.
Paige Fry made five saves for the Spartans. In the 29th minute, at the top of the box, the Miners made a one-timer opportunity that Fry cradled, preventing an early goal. Fry recorded another big save in the 79th minute after a UTEP attacker was in the center of the box and Fry made a full-body extension save to keep the score 1-0.
UTEP scored the only goal of the match in the 30th minute.
- This meeting was only the eighth meeting all time, the last being on Oct. 3, 2004
- Charlotte Memoly and Mercedes Cioffi both were never taken off the pitch. Cioffi has now played six games in a row entirely.
- The Spartans recorded eight shots; Indigo Sims and Memoly each recorded two, Kiara Anima, Joliye Brass, Abigail Peterman and Pineda-Aliamus each recorded one
