SPARTANS PLAY FIRST MOUNTAIN WEST HOME MATCHES: The San José State volleyball team returns to Spartan Gym this week to host the first two of eight home Mountain West matches of the season. SJSU and Wyoming will face off on Thursday evening and Saturday afternoon inside Spartan Gym. Admission is free to all.
San José State enters the week with a 5-8 overall record and 0-2 MW mark after falling twice at Air Force last week (3-0 and 3-2).
Both schools will be looking for the first conference win of the year. Wyoming lost twice to UTEP last weekend at UniWyo Sports complex.

ABOUT WYOMING: The Cowgirls enter the weekend with a 7-6 overall record and 0-2 mark in the Mountain West. The team fell twice last weekend to UTEP, 3-1 and 3-0, to open conference play. In non-conference play, Wyoming had wins over Pacific (3-1), Idaho State (3-0), Boise State (3-2), UC Santa Barbara (3-2), Eastern Illinois (3-1), St. Thomas (3-0) and Texas Tech (3-1). Head coach Kayle Prigge is in her fourth season at the helm of the program.

Last meeting: The Cowgirls won, 3-1, last season in Laramie in the only meeting of the season. Learden Lee and Lolohea Fonua each recorded 10 kills for SJSU. The Spartans fell in the first two sets, 25-18 and 25-10, before winning 26-24, but Wyoming won the final set 25-18.
HEWITT-SMITH NEARING CAREER LIST: In just her second season as a Spartan, senior Ava Hewitt-Smith is close to entering a San José State top-10 career list. She begins the week with 46 solo blocks in 41 matches in a Spartan uniform. Hewitt-Smith needs just three solo blocks to tie Arlene Ringer (1982-83) for 10th place on the San José State career solo block list. Hewitt-Smith needs five to tie Tanya Hart (1991-94) at 51 for ninth. Barbara Higgins (1984-87) recorded 107 solo blocks to se the school record.
2,000 CAREER ASSISTS: With 17 assists at Long Beach State on September 12, Fatimah Hall crossed the 2,000 career assists for her four years. She started her career at San Diego State (2023-24) where she recorded 913 in her two years. Last year, Hall recorded 936 assists and has 219 so far this year for 1,155 in her 159 sets played as a Spartan. She enters Thursday’s match with 2,068 collegiate assists.
