SAN JOSE, Calif. – Ronin Axelson made six saves to lead the San José State men’s soccer team (1-3-0, 0-0-0 MW) in a 1-0 loss to No. 1 Stanford (5-0-0, 0-0-0 ACC) on Friday night at the Spartan Soccer Complex.
Stanford scored the match’s only goal in the 36th minute off a free kick set piece.
Angel Gutierrez produced San José State’s lone shot moments after entering the match, sending an attempt over the crossbar in the 36th minute.
Axelson made two saves in the opening half and added four after the break, helping the Spartans hold Stanford scoreless over the final 54 minutes.
Ruben Flores-Thomas, Tiko Moodie, Angel Fernandez, Cameron Cook, Diego Nieves and Amir Anwary each played the full 90 minutes for the Spartans.
The Spartans played in front of 1,345 fans which was the third highest attended men’s soccer match ever at the Spartan Soccer Complex.
