PALO ALTO, Calif. — Camila Celis won in singles while two Spartan doubles teams picked up wins to lead the San José State women’s tennis team on day two of the ITA Regional Championships at Stanford on Friday.
- Celis defeated Portland’s Kennedy Harris in three sets, 6-2, 6-7 (6-8), 10-7.
- In doubles, Katarina Brajovic and Nitika Girish defeated Gonzaga’s Maddy MacNeille and Sveva Zerpelloni, 6-3.
- Emma Fantousis and Soledad Fayos Capilla topped Portland State’s Kasumi Hirayama and Nene Uemura, 6-3.
- Cristina Mateos Losada and Celis fell to Eastern Washington’s Olivia Marais and Zoe Pradel, 6-3.
The following singles matches took place in the main draw:
- Fayos Capilla fell in a tough three-set match to Pacific’s Maya Shanok, 5-7, 6-2, 2-6.
- Brajovic was defeated by Oregon’s Tilde Jagare, 6-3, 6-2.
- Fantousis lost to Stanford’s Alyssa Ahn, 6-2, 6-3.
UP NEXT: The Spartans will continue competing in the ITA Regional Championships tomorrow on day three, where they will play three doubles matches and six singles matches.
