SAN JOSE, Calif. — San José State’s men's basketball assistant coach Ed Gipson has been named to the 2026 ROOTS 66 list.
The ROOTS 66 list is an exclusive annual recognition honoring 66 individuals whose leadership, influence, and impact are shaping the future of college basketball and athletics. This distinction recognizes individuals who have demonstrated leadership, character, and contributions to the basketball community.
Selection to the ROOTS 66 is a distinguished honor reserved for individuals who have demonstrated exceptional leadership, professional impact, character, and continued influence within the industry. Coach Gipson joined the Spartans as an assistant coach in 2023 and enters his fourth season with the program. Previously, Gipson spent seven years as the head men's basketball coach at AZ Compass Prep. He helped the program reach the GEICO National Championship Game for the first time in school history, and his team made national tournaments two other years.
The Spartans will open the 2026-27 season on Monday, Nov. 2 at noon at the Provident Credit Union Event Center. Tickets can be purchased here and the game can be watched on MW+.
