Spartans Cash in Over Rebels 4-1

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Indigo Sims led the San José State women's soccer team (2-6-2, 1-2-0 MW) with two goals, including the go-ahead goal in the second half, to defeat UNLV (3-5-3, 1-1-1 MW) 4-1 at home Saturday night.

The Spartans' game-tying and go-ahead goals were only five minutes apart with just under ten minutes into the second half. Sophia Daily scored the first for the Spartans in the 54th minute; a Rebels defender turned over the ball into Daily's feet and from outside the box she hit it bar down to tie the match.

Only five minutes later, in the 59th, Sims scored the go-ahead and her first. Sims in traffic dribbles the ball through two defenders and with her right foot puts it into the bottom left corner.

Abigail Peterman on the far side of the pitch, dribbles around a defender and sends a ball into the box to find Sims and with one touch Sims puts it into the far left corner to make the score 3-1 in the 72nd minute.

Paige Pineda-Aliamus scored the fourth goal for the Spartans. After Peterman took a shot that the Rebels' keeper couldn't handle, Pineda Aliamus stuffed the ball into the back of the net off the rebound.

The Rebels' lone goal came only 15 minutes into the match. Despite scoring first, they were unable to answer any of the Spartans' goals.
