Spartans Sign Sun Belt Sixth Man of the Year Joey Chammaa

SAN JOSE, Calif. - Joey Chammaa, a 5-11 guard transfer from Arkansas State and last season’s Sun Belt Conference Sixth Man of the Year, will join the San José State men’s basketball team for the 2026-27 season, as announced by head coach Tim Miles.

  • Joins the Spartans as a redshirt junior
  • 2025-26 Sun Belt Sixth Man of the Year
  • Averaged 9.9 points, 1.8 assists and 0.9 steals per game in 21 games off the bench last season at Arkansas State
  • Shot .423 from the field, .327 from three and .815 from the line last season
  • Led the Red Wolves with 101 made free throws
  • Scored in double figures in 10 games, including 21 points at Ohio and Louisiana Monroe
  • Spent his first two collegiate seasons at San Diego
  • Averaged 6.5 points and 1.7 assists per game in 2024-25
  • Scored a career-high 24 points with nine assists against Pepperdine
  • Honor Roll student at Crossroads School for Arts and Sciences in Santa Monica, Calif. 
  • First Team All-Conference Honors in junior and senior seasons after averaging 21.4 and 22.6 points per game
