AT SAN JOSÉ STATE: In his fifth season with the Spartans... Competing for playing time as a running back... 26 career contests with seven starts heading into 2016... Has the best yards per catch average (10.7) of any returning running back on the roster... Has the school's single-game freshman rushing yardage record of 187 yards in the 2013 win at UNLV... Two career games with 100 or more rushing yards... Durable back with three career games of 25 or more carries... First joined the team in the fall of 2012 as a non-scholarship player... 2015: Played in 11 games... Was a reserve running back and special teams defender... Credited with three special teams tackles, all in San Jose State wins at Hawai'i (11/14) and in the AutoNation Cure Bowl vs. Georgia State (12/19)... Carried the football in seven of the team's games... Busiest outing was at Oregon State (9/19) with 20 yards on six carries... Had his season long gain of 10 yards at Auburn (10/3).
2014: Appeared in four games and was a starter for the Minnesota contest (9/21)... Was third on the team with 155 rushing yards... His 47 carries were second most among Spartan running backs... Had a season-high 56 rushing yards at Minnesota and Nevada (9/28)... Season-high five receptions for 51 yards vs. Nevada... Also saw action in the UNLV win gaining 37 yards on 10 carries and at San Diego State (11/29) with four carries for six yards.
2013: Played in 11 games and was the starter in six of the last seven contests... Earned College Football News All-Freshman Team honorable mention recognition... Led the team in rushing with a school single-season freshman record of 788 yards and four rushing touchdowns... After just four carries the first three games, gave a hint of what was to come gaining 29 yards on six carries against Utah State (9/27)... Became part of a trio of freshman running backs in the revamped ground attack beginning with the Hawai'i win (10/5)... Chipped in with 89 yards and a touchdown as he, Tim Crawley and Thomas Tucker became the second freshman threesome in school history to rush for at least 200 yards in a game with 45 carries for 230 yards at Hawai'i... Lawson, Crawley and Tucker would do it a second time in the UNLV victory (11/2) combining for 308 yards and two rushing touchdowns as Lawson notched his career high and San José State single-game freshman record of 187 yards on 28 carries and a touchdown... The UNLV game followed a 25-carry, 128-yard performance in the Wyoming triumph (10/26) making him the first San José State freshman with back-to-back 100 yard rushing games... One of four Spartan freshmen with at least one 100-yard receiving game during the season with three receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown in the Colorado State win (10/12)... His 83-yard touchdown catch and run at Colorado State was the team's longest from scrimmage in 2013... Finished the season as one eight Spartans with 20 or more receptions catching 20 passes for 223 yards.
2012: Completed a redshirt season.
HIGH SCHOOL: A football (Coach Mike Machado), soccer and track and field letterwinner at Valley Christian High in San José... Rushed for 2,043 yards on 224 carries for 24 touchdowns as a junior and senior... Had 165 attempts for 1,548 yards and 18 TDs as a senior... Was a linebacker on defense credited with 111 tackles in 2011... Named a 2011 National Christian School Athletic Association All-American, MaxPreps Division III first-team all-state linebacker, San Francisco Chronicle second-team All-Metro running back and his league's Utility Player of the Year as a senior... A first-team all-league and honorable mention All-Central Coast Section linebacker as a junior... Was named his school's 2012 Athlete of the Year... A forward on the soccer team and a sprinter in track and field.
