A two-time Super Bowl winner, Greg Robinson was appointed San Jose State University[apos]s defensive coordinator and linebackers coach in February 2014.
Robinson brings five decades of National Football League (NFL) and NCAA Division I coaching experience to the Spartans. He was the Denver Broncos defensive coordinator (1995-2000) when the Broncos won Super Bowls XXXII and XXXIII in 1998 and 1999, respectively. He also was the defensive coordinator for the New York Jets (1994) and the Kansas City Chiefs (2001-03).
The new San Jose State defensive coordinator coordinated defenses for the University of Texas (2004 & 2013) and the University of Michigan (2009 & 2010). The 2004 Texas team won the 2005 Rose Bowl and 2010 Michigan team played in the 2011 Gator Bowl.
Born on October 9, 1951, the Los Angeles native began his coaching career in 1975 at the University of the Pacific. In his early coaching years, he also worked at Cal State Fullerton (1977-79), North Carolina State (1980-81) and UCLA (1982-89). At UCLA, he was the defensive line coach (1982-88) and offensive coordinator (1989) when Caragher was a Bruins quarterback during the 1985 through 1989 seasons.
Overall, Robinson is a coach of 16 teams to play in a bowl game or advance to the NFL playoffs. During the 2005 through the 2008 seasons, he was the head coach at Syracuse University.
Robinson is a 1975 graduate of the University of the Pacific. He played linebacker and tight end for the 1972 through 1974 Tigers teams and was the recipient of the team[apos]s Most Inspirational Player Award as a senior.
He and his wife, Laura, are the parents of three adult children - Dominic, Lindsay and Leslie.
