Hug joins the Spartans after five seasons with Arizona State University in various capacities. He joined the Sun Devils in 2011 working in the admission office. In 2012, he began working for the football staff in many areas of student-athlete recruitment and game film breakdown of prospects. During the 2015 season, he was promoted to coordinator of football operations adding human resources, sports performance, meal planning, ticketing, bowl game and booster responsibilities to his duties.
The 2009 graduate of Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio, majored in business administration. He would earn a master's degree in education from his alma mater in 2011.
Hug's first football coaching experience was as a graduate assistant at his alma mater for the 2010 season coaching defensive linemen.
The Eastlake, Ohio native was a two-sport letterwinner at Lake Erie. He was on Lake Erie's first intercollegiate football team in 2008 and was named to the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division II all-star team as a punter his senior season in 2009. Hug also was a pitcher on the baseball team and finished with a 5-3 career win-loss record in 45 games.
