Johnathon Hankinson was named San Jose State University's director of football equipment in August 2018. In 2024, he is entering his seventh season with the Spartans.
Hankinson was named the 2024 Equipment Director of the Year by Clean Out presented by Big Game.
Hankinson came to San José State with nine seasons of experience working in a lead role equipping college football teams. The native of Jefferson City, Mo., spent three seasons (2015-17) as the football equipment manager at Southeast Missouri State University before accepting the opportunity to join the Spartans.
A 2010 graduate of Central Methodist University, Hankinson played one season of college football for the Eagles before embarking on a career in athletics equipment management in 2006. For four seasons, he supervised a staff of five that serviced as many as 180 football players a season.
Hankinson then spent two seasons (2010 and 2011) as the head football equipment manager at Texas A&M University - Commerce in Commerce, Texas.
