Nick Meyer joined the San José State football staff in 2026 as a Defensive Graduate Assistant. He arrived at SJSU following a successful two-season stint at California Lutheran University, where he served as the Safeties Coach and Defensive Passing Game Coordinator in 2025. During his time with the Kingsmen, Meyer was instrumental in developing one of the program’s most productive secondaries, coaching multiple All-Conference defensive backs.
Coaching Philosophy & Background
- A United States Navy veteran, Meyer integrates a disciplined, detail-oriented, and high-accountability approach into his coaching style. Before transitioning to the collegiate level, he spent several years coaching high school football, focusing on:
- Fundamental Player Development: Building technical skills from the ground up.
- Leadership Mentorship: Cultivating strong character within the locker room.
- Program Culture: Establishing a standard of excellence and consistency.
Personal & Education
- Meyer earned his bachelor’s degree in Sports Management from California Lutheran University. He is currently pursuing graduate studies at San José State while also serving as a coach.
- A native of the region, Meyer resides in the Bay Area with his wife, Andrea, and their dog, Gracie.
