Eileen Yen joined the San José State golf program in May 2017. She has worked as a volunteer with head coach John Kennady since his appointment in 2005.
Over the years, Yen assisted with fundraisers and donor outreach until Coach Kennaday successfully recruited her to become his Director of Operations. In her current role, her duties have expanded into other non-coaching aspects of running the golf program.
Before joining SJSU, Yen’s career spanned 25 years of managing projects, events, and people. Her resume includes more than 20 years in marketing for tech companies like Knight Ridder Digital, CallidusCloud, Yahoo!, and BEA Systems. She has experience in every aspect of marketing, from brand identity (via packaging and print communications) to digital media (via websites, applications, and email campaigns) to event marketing (via trade shows, conferences, seminars, and special events). Yen is also a seasoned educator who taught students at Citizen Schools, Rocketship Alma Academy, and Alpha: Cornerstone Academy.
She continues to combine her tech experience with her project management skills to streamline internal processes and build tools that enhance the golf program. Yen’s marketing background assists Coach Kennaday in reinforcing ties with donors and Spartan alumni. Her love of education also drives her to support our student-athletes however she can, to ensure they graduate with skills to help them succeed long after they leave SJSU.
Actively involved in the community, Yen continues to support education-oriented non-profit organizations, as she has throughout her career. Currently, she volunteers with San Jose Public Library as an Adult Literacy Tutor for their Partners in Reading program; with All-Stars Helping Kids to supply books to local teachers and students; and with Learning Ally as a reader and producer of audio books for students with visual impairments and learning disabilities. She also works with Teach For America as an Alumni Ambassador, helping them vet candidates to identify those most likely to succeed in transitioning from their current careers into the life of a classroom teacher.
Eileen and her husband both graduated from Cal, and live in San Jose with their two spunky Corgi pups.
