2012: Started in all 18 matches for 1331 minutes...led the Spartans in goals (9), points (21), shots (54), and game-winning goals (3)...scored goals in five consecutive matches (9/9 - 9/23)...tallied multiple points in eight matches...took a season-high six shots twice against Bradley (9/21), when he had his only multiple goal match of the season (2) and Seattle (9/30)...ranked third in the MPSF in points-per-game (1.17), points (21), goals (9), and goals-per-game (.50).
2011: Started 19 matches and appeared in all 20...tied for the team lead in goals (7)and assists (5) and points (19)...six of his seven tallies were the game winner...second on the team with 45 shots and 26 shots on goal...got off a season-best five shots at Loyola Marymount (9/16) where he scored a goal and an assist...against Denver (10/23) he had a season-high four shots on goal and had an assist and a goal...in the regular season, his shots (38), points (16), goals (6) and assists (4) all ranked in the top-10 among conference players...totaled 1317 minutes for the season.
2010: Saw action in 13 matches, all as a reserve...totaled 318 minutes...scored his first collegiate goal, the game-winner, versus Loyola Marymount (9/19)...twice got off two shots in a match - against New Mexico (10/31) and Sacramento State (11/6).
2009: Played in 19 matches and made one start - at Loyola Marymount (9/11)...took 14 shots, five of them on goal...logged 674 minutes.
HIGH SCHOOL: A 2008 graduate of San Jose[apos]s Piedmont Hills High School (PHHS) for Coach Erik Gaspar... four-time All-Blossom Valley Athletic League (BVAL) selection and three-time team captain...All-BVAL West Valley Division second-teamer while leading PHHS to the division title in 2005...in 2006 was the Santa Teresa Division Sophomore of the Year and a first-team All-BVAL pick...Santa Teresa Division Co-Junior of the Year and first-team All-BVAL honoree in 2007 and earned BVAL Santa Teresa Division MVP honors... finished prep career with 84 goals...also participated two years each in varsity football and varsity track.
CLUB: Participated in Region IV ODP in 2007, traveling to Disney[apos]s Soccer Showcase...made the Cal-North state ODP squad in 2007...club soccer teammate of Mauricio Murillo, Jr., for the U17 Hamilton Lobitos, playing for Spartan assistant coach Chris Behler...member of four consecutive Cal-North State Cup title teams from 2003-06...
helped the Lobitos through both the regional and national tournaments, winning all nine games by a combined score of 39-7, on the way to the 2007 US Club Soccer U17 Super Group title...two-time US Club Soccer regional champion...2005 Nomads Thanksgiving Tournament Super Group and 2005 State Premier League champions.
STEVEN: Majoring in justice studies...enjoys Sudoku and chess...has three older sisters, Elizabeth, Laura and Christina...the son of Patricia Ponce and Abel Sanchez...a native of Santa Clara, Calif., Steven Sanchez was born February 8, 1990.
