An experienced goalkeeping coach at all levels, Rodrigo Baptista is in his first year as an assistant coach for the San José State University women[apos]s soccer team in 2014.
Baptista comes to San José State from Mission College (Santa Clara, Calif.). He was the head men[apos]s and women[apos]s soccer coach for the 2011 through 2013 seasons.
At the professional level, Baptista worked as an assistant coach for FC Gold Pride in the Women[apos]s Professional League (WPS) from 2009-2010, coaching the team[apos]s goalkeepers to league championship in 2010. During his time at FC Gold Pride Rodrigo worked directly with U.S. National Team Goalkeeper Nicole Barnhat and Sky Blue (NWSL) goalkeeper Brittany Cameron.
Baptista is an experienced and successful coach at the youth level. He has coached several girls and boys local clubs and goalkeepers. Under his guidance, Rodrigo has led many of his youth players to top collegiate soccer programs.
He is also very involved with the game of Futsal at both national and international levels. Baptista has participated in a number of U.S. National Futsal competitions, as well as several international competitions, such as FIFA Clubs Futsal World Cup and Intercontinental Futsal Cup.
Baptista holds a NSCAA Premier National Diploma and USSF National B License. The native of Rio De Janeiro, Brazil, he played for the Brazilian home team Fluminense Football club. He earned his Bachelor[apos]s degree in Kinesiology from San José State in 2008. He played for his alma mater from 2005-2006, and also competed for Foothill College (Los Altos, Calif.) from 2002-2003.
