In 2017-18, Jourdan Willard enters her fifth season as an assistant coach with the San José State women's basketball program.
Willard’s primary on-court responsibilities for the Spartans include wing and trail post development, rebounding and offense and opponent scouting. Off the court she is the program’s recruiting and academic coordinator.
In her four years at San José State, Willard has had one CoSIDA Academic All-District VIII honoree, three SJSU President’s Scholars, four Dean’s Scholars, eight Arthur Ashe, Jr. Sports Scholars, 10 Mountain West Scholar Athletes and 26 Academic All-Mountain West honorees.
Willard came to the Spartans after spending five years working on the women's basketball staff at Sacramento State. She began her coaching career as an undergraduate assistant for the Hornets in 2008-09 and was elevated to the team's director of basketball operations the following season.
In 2010-11 she was appointed as an assistant coach and held that position for the next three seasons, primarily developing the program's perimeter players.
In 2012-13, Willard mentored one of the top players in the Big Sky Conference in Kylie Kuhns. Kuhns broke the school and Big Sky career rebounding records during the year while also leading the team in scoring. For her efforts, Kuhns earned All-Big Sky first-team honors.
Willard began her collegiate playing career at Nevada (2005 & 2006). She then transferred to Sacramento State and played parts of two seasons (2007 & 2008) before her career was cut short by injury.
A 2004 graduate of El Camino High School in Sacramento, Calif., Willard was the first freshman in 17 years to make the varsity team and was named team MVP each of her four seasons. Upon graduation, she ranked second on the program’s career scoring list despite missing a portion of the season in her junior year due to injury. Willard was a two time first-team All-Capital Athletic League performer and trained at To the Hoop with Guss Armstead.
Willard earned a degree in business marketing from Sacramento State in 2009 and is currently working on a master's degree in education with an emphasis in gender equity from the same institution.
