On July 19, 2016, Christa Prior was named assistant coach for the San José State women’s swimming and diving team.Prior’s responsibilities include assisting in coordinating all recruiting efforts, on deck coaching and coordinating the team’s travel.
The 2012 graduate of the University of Hawai’i came to San José State after two-years as a graduate assistant at Concordia University Irvine (CUI) where she worked with both the men’s and women’s swimming teams. At CUI she designed and administered the teams strength and conditioning program, planned and managed the imagery techniques and relaxation program for the team and assisted with daily activities and meet functions.
Prior began her collegiate swimming career at Shasta College in Redding, California. At Shasta, she was a two-time Bay Valley Champion Swimmer of the Year and State Champion in the 100 Back and 50 Free. After earning her associate’s degree, she transferred to Hawai’i, where she earned Mid-Major Honorable Mention All-American honors as a senior.
During her final year as a Rainbow Wahine, Prior won the Western Athletic Conference title in the 100-yard backstroke. She finished her career as the program’s record-holder in the 100-yard backstroke (54.07) and 200-yard backstroke (1:56.91), and the only female qualifier in the 2012 Olympic Trials in the 100 backstroke.
