Isaac Franco joined the Spartan Athletic Performance Staff in June of 2019 and currently serves as the Lead Assistant Athletic Performance Coach for the Spartan football program. He primarily works directly with the quarterbacks, specialists, tight ends, running backs, and linebackers. Additionally, Franco serves as the Head Athletic Performance Coach for the women’s tennis team.
Franco started as a graduate assistant coach at SJSU before being promoted to a full-time assistant in the spring of 2021. He received his master’s in Exercise Physiology in the spring of 2022 with his concluding thesis on “Enhancing RFD in NFL Athletes through Ballistic Training Methods: Research & Application.”
At San Jose State, Franco has worked with football, women’s tennis, men’s and women’s water polo, track and field, and cross country teams. While working with these programs, the football team won its first-ever Mountain West Championship during the 2020 season; the women’s tennis team won the Mountain West Championship during the 2021 season; and men’s water polo finished its 2021 season with its first winning record since the program was reinstated in 2015, ending the season ranked ninth nationally.
Prior to SJSU, Franco began his career in athletic performance by completing a professional internship at the University of Southern California. At USC, he worked primarily with the football program while also assisting with the 21 Olympic sports.
Franco graduated from USC in 2019, earning his bachelor’s in Human Biology with an emphasis in Human Performance. Franco was a two-sport NCAA athlete, playing lacrosse at Adams State University and then transferring to USC where he became a walk-on linebacker in the football program.
Franco is currently certified through the NSCA as a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (CSCS).
