Alex Saunders joined the San Jose State men[apos]s soccer coaching staff in 2012. The native of London, England, is in his second season as a volunteer assistant coach.
He spent the 2011 season on the staff at West Valley College in Saratoga, Calif. As an assistant at De Anza College in 2010, Saunders helped guide the Dons to a 12-4-5 overall record. In Coast Conference play De Anza College posted a 10-1-3 record and were champions of the South Division. They finished the year ranked No. 15 in the nation.
As head coach of the Boys 99 Green of the Santa Clara Sporting Club in 2011 and 2012, he led the team to back-to-back Sporting Invitational Championships, Surf Cup semi finalists, Nor Cal State Cup championship, CYSA league titles and various tournament wins.
At his alma mater, Coventry University in Coventry, England, he served as head coach from 1998 through 2002. Also during that time (1994-2004), he was the Youth Development Officer at the Eastbourne (England) Town Men[apos]s Football Club.
He holds a National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) A License as well as NSCAA Advanced National and a Director of Coaching Diplomas, plus a UEFA B from the UK.
